日本のガラス芸術の開拓者と言われた岩田籐七は、東京・日本橋に生まれました。1918年東京美術学校金工科を卒業後,西洋画科に再入学し,岡田三郎助に師事。
卒業後、今村繁三に吹きガラスを学んで、ガラス工芸に転進しました。1937年パリ万国工芸展で銀賞受賞。東京都葛飾区堀切に1944年岩田硝子製作所を設立。
ガラスを芸術として見たガラスアート、ガラス工芸の地位向上に尽力しました。世界のガラス芸術にも先進的な役割を果たし、現在のガラス作家にも多大な影響を
与えています。
今回ご紹介の品物は、岩田藤七の花瓶です。吹きガラスを創作の基本とした岩田の作品は,重厚感があり、華麗で流動感のある色ガラスが特徴的です。

Iwata Touhichi, considered a pioneer of glass art in Japan, was born in Nihonbashi, Tokyo,
and after graduating from the metalworking department of Tokyo Fine Arts School in 1918, he re-enrolled in the Western painting department and studied under Okada Sabrosuke.
After graduation, he studied glassblowing under Shigezo Imamura and moved on to glass art, winning the Silver Prize at the 1937 Universal Crafts Exhibition in Paris.
He established Iwata Glass Works in Horikiri, Katsushika-ku, Tokyo in 1944.
He devoted himself to improving the status of glass art and glass crafts, viewing glass as an art form. He has played a progressive role in the world’s glass art and has
had a great influence on today’s glass artists.

The item introduced here is a vase by Touhichi Iwata.
Iwata’s works, which are based on blown glass, are characterized by their massive, gorgeous, and fluid colored glass.
