Rakuzan-yaki, also known as Izumo-yaki, is famous as the official kiln of the Matsue Clan.
The kiln was opened in 1677 by Gonbei Kurasaki, a Hagiyaki potter who was invited by the Matsudaira family of Unshu, and today it is still made in a climbing kiln that retains the structure it has had since the Edo period. The pieces fired are characterized by the Korai copying and brushwork techniques, the iron-reddish clay taste, and the firing of glazes that present a unique and calming yamabuki color.
This vase is now on sale at the Jikoh store.
