岩田久利（1925〜1994）は、東京新宿弁天町出身のガラス工芸家です。日本のガラス芸術の開拓者と言われた岩田籐七の長男であり、籐七のガラス工芸をさらに究め、日本のガラス芸術の第一人者と評価されました。久利の作品は、繊細華麗、金箔を縦横に使いこなした、端正な美しさを放つ作風に代表されます。

今回ご紹介の作品『瑠璃金彩壺』は、ガラスの総称でもある『瑠璃』の美しい色に、金彩が散りばめられています。壺のふくらみに合わせて広がる繊細な模様は、孔雀の羽根のようです。久利はこの技法を得意とし、「孔雀文」・「羽状文」・「葉文」・「波文」など、様々な色と使い方で芸術的な作品を制作しています。

こちらの『瑠璃金彩壺』は、高さ20㎝ほどの大きさで、日常的にも使い易いサイズとなっています。「生活に使える美術品の普及」を目指した、久利らしい作品です。

Hisatoshi Iwata (1925-1994) was a glass artist from Benten-cho, Shinjuku, Tokyo.

He was the eldest son of Iwata Tohichi, who was considered a pioneer of glass art in Japan, and further refined Tohichi’s glass art, earning him a reputation as a leading figure in Japanese glass art.

Hisatoshi’s works are represented by his delicate and gorgeous style, which radiates a neat beauty through his extensive use of gold leaf.

The work introduced here, “Ruri Kinsai Jar,” is covered in the beautiful color of “lapis lazuli,” which is also the general term for glass, and is sprinkled with gold.

The delicate pattern that spreads out as the jar bulges resembles the feathers of a peacock.

Hisatoshi excelled at this technique, creating artistic works in a variety of colors and uses, including “peacock,” “feather,” “leaf,” and “wave” patterns.

This “Ruri Kinsai Jar” is about 20 cm high and easy to use in daily life. It is typical of Hisatoshi ‘s aim to “popularize art works that can be used in daily life.
