日本陶器（現ノリタケカンパニーリミテド）の技師長だった飛鳥井孝太郎は、名古屋の陶磁器貿易商だった寺沢留四郎と共に、明治44年(1911年)に設立したのが名古屋製陶所の前身、帝国製陶所でした。当時、帝国製陶所はノリタケのライバルとなるほど成長しました。しかし、台風の被害で経営困難となり、名古屋財閥の助けを借りて、合資会社・名古屋製陶所となりました。その後、鳴海にトンネル窯の工場を新設したものの、大戦の影響を受け、昭和18年(1943年)住友工業へ鳴海工場を売却します。この工場は、戦後、鳴海製陶所となり、ノリタケ カンパニーリミテドに次いで国内では第2位の洋食器メーカーに成長しました。鳴海工場を手放した名古屋製陶所は、戦後輸出向けの製品を作っていましたが昭和44年に解散、60年の歴史に幕を閉じました。オールド名陶とは、名古屋製陶所と名古屋製陶の両社において敗戦までの間に製造された硬質磁器製品を指します。こちらカップは、裏印から名古屋製陶所時代の製品と思われます。金彩に淡い色の手彩色を施した、品のいいデザインです。

Asukai Kotaro, the chief engineer of Nippon Toki (now Noritake Company Limited), established Teikoku Seitousyo , the predecessor of Nagoya Seitousyo , in 1911 (Meiji 44) together with Terasawa Tomeshiro, a Nagoya-based ceramics trader. At the time, Teikoku  Seitousyo had grown so much that it became a rival to Noritake. However, typhoon damage made it difficult to manage, and with the help of the Nagoya Zaibatsu, it became a joint-stock company, Nagoya Seitousyo. Later, a new tunnel kiln factory was built in Narumi, but due to the effects of the war, the Narumi factory was sold to Sumitomo Industry in 1943 (Showa 18). This factory became Narumi Pottery after the war and grew to become the second largest manufacturer of western tableware in Japan after Noritake Company Limited. After giving up the Narumi factory, Nagoya Seitousyo  made products for export after the war, but was dissolved in 1969, ending its 60-year history. Old Meito refers to hard porcelain products manufactured by both Nagoya Seito and Nagoya Seitousyo until the end of the war. This cup is thought to be from the Nagoya Seitousyo  period, based on the reverse seal. It has a classy design with gilt and light-coloured hand-colouring.

水指は、茶道の点前で、茶釜に水を足したり、茶碗や茶筅を洗う水を蓄えておくための器ですが、今回ご紹介の水指は、割竹を縦に並べて張りつめ上下に二本の箍を

嵌めた寄竹手桶水指で、室町後期の茶人・武野紹鴎が好んだ水指と言われています。共箱の蓋には、二代目村瀬治兵衛の落款があります。

二代目村瀬治兵衛は、名古屋で江戸時代から続く木地師の家に生まれた父、初代治兵衛に遡ります。

薄挽きを得意とした初代は、美術家・北大路魯山人の指導を受けて塗師の仕事も手がけるようになり、木地師と塗師（ぬし）、両方の技を駆使する独自の作風を確立

しました。二代目村瀬治兵衛は、昭和35年（1960）頃、大徳寺の第511世住持だった立花大亀老師と出会い、大亀老師を囲む数寄者や料亭主人、政財界人との交流か

ら茶道具や懐石道具を作るようになりました。昭和51年（ 1976）二代目治兵衛を襲名しました。現在は、木地師であり塗師である治兵衛スタイルを三代目が継承して

います。

A mizusashi is a vessel used to store water for adding water to a tea kettle or washing tea bowls and tea whisks in the tea ceremony.

It is said to have been favoured by the late Muromachi period tea master Takeno Jouou. The lid of the box bears the signature of Murase Jihei II.

Murase Jihei II traces his lineage back to his father, Jihei I, who was born into a family of woodworkers in Nagoya that had been in existence since the Edo period.

Murase I specialised in thin-ground work, but under the guidance of the artist Kitaoji Rosanjin, he also began to work as a lacquer craftsman,

establishing a unique style that made full use of the skills of both woodworker and lacquer craftsman.

Around 1960 (Showa 35), Murase Jihei II met Tachibana Daikame, the 511th abbot of Daitokuji Temple, and through his interactions with the people around him,

such as sukiya (tea masters), ryotei owners and people in the political and business world, he began to produce tea ceremony utensils and kaiseki utensils.

The company began making tea ceremony utensils and kaiseki utensils as a result of their interaction with Daikame’s friends and colleagues.

In 1976 (Showa 51), he assumed the name Jihei II. The Jihei style of woodworking and lacquering is now carried on by the third generation.

The third generation continues the Jibei style as a woodworker and a painter.

坂倉 新兵衛（1917－1975）は、山口県長門市深川の萩焼窯元・坂倉新兵衛窯の当主が代々襲名している陶芸作家としての名跡です。

当代は十五代坂倉新兵衛正治ですが、今回ご紹介の品物は、十四代坂倉新兵衛の萩茶碗です。

日本現代陶芸展や日本伝統工芸展などに入選し、1947年山口県指定無形文化財保持者となりました。

伝統の萩焼茶陶に現代感覚を程よく織り込んだ作風で、茶碗・水指・茶入などに秀作を残 し、今でも多くの茶人に好まれています。

こちらの萩茶碗は状態も良く、淡いサーモンピンクの釉薬が、萩焼らしく柔らかな風合いを生み出しています。

Shinpei Sakakura (1917-1975) is the name of a ceramic artist who has been succeeded from generation to generation by the head of the Shinpei Sakakura Kiln, a Hagi ware kiln in Fukagawa, Nagato City, Yamaguchi Prefecture.

The current head is Masaharu Sakakura Shinpei XV, but the item introduced here is a Hagi tea bowl made by Sakakura Shinpei XIV.

He was selected for the Japan Contemporary Ceramic Art Exhibition and the Japan Traditional Crafts Exhibition, and in 1947 he was designated as an intangible cultural property holder by Yamaguchi Prefecture.

With a style that moderately interweaves a modern sense into traditional Hagi ware tea bowls, he left excellent works in tea bowls, water jars, tea containers, etc., and is still favored by many tea masters.

This Hagi tea bowl is in good condition, and the pale salmon pink glaze creates a soft texture that is typical of Hagi ware.
